Centre for Women's Studies, IIS( Deemed to be University), Jaipur

The Centre for Women’s Studies was established at the IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur in 2009 in accordance with the UGC guidelines. From its inception the university has taken implicit responsibility of transforming the lives of women, especially making the young girls “World Ready Women”. There are a number of structural, social, psychological and emotional barriers which impede the progress of women. In order to overcome these barriers a dedicated Centre for Women’s Studies has been established for undertaking teaching, research, documentation and community outreach activities.

The specific objectives of the Centre are:

  •  To sensitize the students and community towards gender issues
  • To develop critical consciousness in the community about gender discrimination and its impact on the wider society.
  • To integrate gender perspective in Social Science, Science and Commerce and Management disciplines
  • To promote research specific to women and development

 

The activities of the centre are aligned with the thrust areas of teaching, training, research and extension services, which are generally conducted by Women's Cell of the University.

 

Future plans of the Centre

The Centre seeks to enhance the visibility of gender issues in the university as well as in the wider community. For this purpose the centre will make efforts to raise funds for research and extension activities from external funding agencies like the UGC and ICSSR. Further, the centre plans to organize workshops on Feminist Research Methodologies for encouraging research scholars to incorporate women’s perspective in their research.
